Minoan Pottery : Kamares Ware

  • Kamares Ware was named for finds in the cave sanctuary at Kamares on Mt. Ida in 1890.
  • Style of painted pottery associated with the palace culture that flourished on Crete during the Middle Minoan period (c. 2100–c. 1550 bc).
  • Designs are repetitive or sometimes free-floating, but always symmetrically composed. Themes from nature begin here with octopuses, shellfish, lilies, crocuses and palm-trees, all highly stylized. Shapes were more delicate. One variety features extravagantly thin bodies and is called Eggshell Ware.
  • Painted in white and tones of red, orange, and yellow on black grounds.

Are you living a good life?

According to Wikipedia.com, good life is a term for the life that one would like to live, or for happiness.

Am I having a good life? I guess so, yes. I'm eating 3 times a day. I go to a good school. We have a house to live in. My family is still complete. But somehow I feel that something is missing. I'm having a hard time appreciating because of the situation we're facing now.

Plato's criticism of art.

For Plato, the artist was a dull fellow, simply holding a mirror to nature, imitating it without purpose or thought. (2000) http://andrasta.com/Plato.html

No, I don't agree with Plato. Art is something we do to express ourselves and if it is something that is without a purpose it's like expressing yourself to something empty. I don't see it that way. What we do is something we represent ourselves. And what Plato is doing represents himself. Maybe what he is doing isn't how art should be. I think that art before isn't appreciated much that's why he thought of that. But as we look now to the present time, you can't just say those. Like in photography one of the most taken shoots are nature. And if photography is art, then taking photos of nature is meaningless? No purpose? I believe that nature is art. We can see God's artistic personality through nature. So I strongly disagree with Plato.

The Art of Tutting

Egyptian hieroglyphs were a formal writing system used by the ancient Egyptians that contained a combination of logographic and alphabetic elements. Egyptians used cursive hieroglyphs for religious literature on papyrus and wood. Less formal variations of the script, called hieratic and demotic, are technically not hieroglyphs.

A hieroglyph used as a logogram defines the object of which it is an image.

In dancing Tutting is

  • is a contemporary abstract interpretive street dance style modeled after Egyptian hieroglyphics. Tutting is performed with attention to the musics' rhythm by altering the position of the body and limbs in a synchronized, robotic manner.
  • is a style of dance that consists of making geometric positions and movements. Its style mostly deals with 90 degree angles.
  • is said to have originated from the Egyptian culture because the dance mimics the way an Egyptian would walk and move.

I'm really not sure who did tutting in dancing or created the style and when it arrived. But as what I've seen Tutting has been evolving through time. As what I watch from other dance crews. The creativity and imagination and putting it and incorporating it with dance.

Here is a video of Moon and Hok doing Tutting.

How you express yourself is art.

Art does not solve problems but makes us aware of their existence. It opens our eyes to see and our brain to imagine.

I see art everywhere. Natural art through nature, art as fashion on how they'll express themselves, art through singing, and also through dancing. As a dancer I can say that dancing is an art. Dancing for me relieves me from my stress as a college student. Sometimes when I'm depressed its dancing I look forward too. Inline with the definition I chose, dancing (art) makes me realize that as I look forward to dancing its because I'm stressed and that there is problem. with dancing little by little somehow I forget the stress and just have fun. Like in the quote, "makes us aware of their existence (problems)" With the problems and stress I can come up with step and choreographies to my dance. It helps me become more relieved.

"Who/What determines whether a work/product/object is a work of art? Or, who determines whether a person is an artist?"

For me whatever you put effort on with inspiration and that has a final product is art. Being an artist is what society labels you. And having this National Artist award is just a recognition for what you've contributed to your art. I think it depends on how serious you'll be on your art, it can be that you study your art more like the people in universities or do what you do (like painting, performing arts, literature etc.) more as a hobby.

Like what Carlo Caparas is pointing out, he's an artist. Maybe also by profession but he's works has a huge impact on television, film, and on literature. As what CCP and NCCA are saying that he wasn't included in the cut off, my say there is just interrogate representatives from Malacañang and not him. It's not his fault that former President appointed him, but she's the one to be asked why he's included.

I can be an artist without me knowing it. You could be an artist. It's just a label. Anyone can be artistic it's just how you'll present it and how people would understand what you're trying to say.
