Face to Face!

Face Negotiation Theory assumes that people of every culture are concerned with the presentation of their "face". As face is refers to one's self-image in the presence of others. It involves feelings of respect, honor, status and other similar values. Face for me is also your image/identity and how you will protect it from the impression of others. Yes, I agree because that different cultures and different perspective to "face" . With different cultures we have and different traits, one way or another there will be conflict but this must not be main concern just because we all differ from one another.

It's hard to choose which conflict-management style because it depends on the given situation but I think my styles are compromising, dominating and integrating. I usually take in ideas and then later share what I have in mind but when the situation goes tough and I what I think is right I stand firm to my ideas. As for integrating, when I have a solid basis, I usually share what I know to the group.

Preventive face work negotiation strategy because according to the group it "involves communication designed to protect a person from feelings that threaten personal or group face". Sometimes I try to think what the person will feel if I say or if I share something or ask for a favor.

As if I have a choice?

Ever wondered if we can have a stand in our religious view when we were born? Example, like for Catholics, a new born baby automatically becomes Catholic because the family is. As if the new born knows what's happening and when he/she becomes older, principles are taught to her. Can he/she question if he/she had a choice?

My grandparents are devoted Catholic and has many traditions. My parents are Catholics and obviously I am. I have questioned faith and traditions of the church. And when my grandmother hears that I attend youth services from other Christian groups she automatically thinks that I want to change my religion. Did they asked me in the first place if I wanted to be a Catholic?

For me, it's supposed to be a choice. To be baptized is a choice. It is renewing yourself by water, leaving your old self and have a renewed life. I think, new born babies haven't done anything sinful yet and why baptize them?

Different sides of ME

I = Though ; ME = Act

I tend to think of what people would think about me. What I do is try to coup with them and then see if my personality can fit their's. That's why sometimes I would rather go by myself rather to be with other people because I'm shy.

ME WITH FRIENDS

Usually I'm an outgoing person, friendly, active, hyper and laughs all the time. I really don't want any dull moment but then again I try to see if other people can handle the "me" that I am. For my friends that I know for a long time, of course I'm more comfortable showing who I really am. Most of the time, I think about my friends first rather than myself that I act sacrificing a lot for them because I want is the best for them.

For some, I tend to be shy. You can't please everybody so better for me to just be quiet. It's not that I don't want to socialize with them but because of the thought that they might think I'm "Feeling Close".

Uhmmm whatcha say?

At class, we've discussed Altercasting Communication Theory. This is a strategy that persuades someone in society to do a role and eventually act to that role. And as discussed there are two basic forms of altercasting

MANDED

Manded altercasting means that we ‘tell’ people who they are (or are supposed to be) by making an existing role.

Ever wounder why men should open the door for women? Or lend them your seat? Or carry their loads if their to heavy? Ever wonder why society labeled these to men if every one has their own tasks to do and need to matter others? Well, out of respect to the women because they need help. But isn't this something society tells the male that they should do this and do that?

History tells that a gentlemen's "strict" signification is well-educated, noble in action, etc... but if it is like this then why nowadays, gentlemen are so rare that women gets surprised and say, "Wow, he's ACTUALLY a gentleman! I'm surprised..."

Of course, a simple way to care for others. But why not the female? Don't get me wrong I respect the ladies.

TACT

When you're born to this world automatically you're a citizen of some state. As you grow you must follow that rules, constitution and act to what the country needs. Of course upon coming to the world, the state already have debts to pay and even when you're not yet born, the country is already paying this through the citizens taxes. You're parents, grand parents, great grand parents, etc. Now that you're born, eventually at the right age you'll pay for these taxes that you don't even know how it came all down to you and your generation.

Tact altercasting shows that you are "cast" to a certain role because there are others doing their role and it seems that you don't have a choice. If you saw a police man on a uniform you're cast to be a citizen following rules etc.

BEHIND THE CAMERA

To be honest I really don't know what to believe when I saw this video. The media has the power to manipulate what it can show to the public and mostly if not all believe on what they report on TV, write on newspapers, say on the radio. We may not know if what they are saying isn't really biased to another. As the media can manipulate what they say, this video shows what the "media" didn't. What the media MAYBE hide from us.

As the AGENDA-SETTING, the media may excluded this footage to the public and included what the people will sympathies.

A lot to think about after seeing this video. May this entry able us to rethink if the media is really "right", if what the media says is true, "walang kinikilingan etc..."
